Factory facts
Where it's made
Our parent factory is in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec — about 40 km southeast of Montreal. It's been operating since 1991 producing flooring, home decor, outdoor products, and now bedding for millions of Canadian homes.
What happens in Canada
Polyurethane chemistry is prepared on-site. Foam is injection-molded (not cut from a slab) so each core has consistent density. Pillows are cured on racks, fitted into the inner polyester cover, paired with the MapleCool™ outer cover, inspected, and packaged for shipment — all in one facility.
What's imported
The outer cover yarn — the 51% polyethylene phase-change material that gives the cover its cooling behavior — is imported. Once it's in our factory, it's knit, cut, sewn, and finished here. That makes our legal claim "Made in Canada with imported and domestic materials."
Who owns it
We're Canadian-owned. The bedding line (Maple) was launched in 2026 by the same parent company that's been manufacturing for 35 years.
How it's made
Every photo below is from our parent factory in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The same building handles chemistry, injection molding, curing, cover assembly, inspection, and final packaging.

Step 1 · Chemistry preparation
Foam chemistry is mixed and monitored on-site before each pour run.

Step 2 · Injection molding
Each pillow core is poured into a precision mold rather than cut from a slab.

Step 3 · Production floor
Curing racks line the back wall — pillows rest before they are unmolded and finished.

Step 4 · Curing line
Each batch follows a controlled cure cycle so loft and firmness land within tolerance.

Step 5 · Cure rack
Pillows hold here until they are at full loft and ready for cover assembly.

Step 6 · Final assembly
MapleCool™ cover, label, inspection, then compressed packaging — all in one room.
What's domestic, what's imported
We'd rather be exact than impressive. Here's every component and where it comes from.
| Component | Material | Origin | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory foam core | 100% polyurethane memory foam, CertiPUR-US® certified | Made in Canada (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu) | 1300 g |
| Inner cover | 100% polyester knit | Made in Canada | 250 g |
| Outer cover (MapleCool™) | 51% polyethylene phase-change material (PCM) for cooling, 49% polyester knit | Imported, finished in Canada | 300 g |
| Finished pillow | 71 × 45 cm | Final assembly: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu | 1.7 kg |
Origin claims, explained
Canada's Competition Bureau distinguishes between two main origin claims for non-food products. "Product of Canada" requires roughly 98% Canadian content; "Made in Canada" requires at least 51% Canadian content plus the last substantial transformation in Canada, with a qualifying statement when there's any imported content. We use "Made in Canada with imported and domestic materials."
| Claim | General meaning | Maple Sleep's position |
|---|---|---|
| Product of Canada | ≥98% Canadian content + last substantial transformation in Canada | We don't claim this — the imported PCM cover yarn excludes us from this threshold. |
| Made in Canada | ≥51% Canadian content + last substantial transformation in Canada + qualifying statement if there's imported content | Our actual claim. Well over 51% Canadian content; final transformation in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. |
| Canadian-owned | Ownership claim, separate from manufacturing | True for Maple Sleep, in addition to the manufacturing claim. |
| Designed in Canada | Design claim only, separate from manufacturing | Also true — design and engineering happen in Canada. |
Our exact claim: Made in Canada with imported and domestic materials. Last substantial transformation completed in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
Why it matters
Frequently asked
The foam core, the inner cover, the assembly, the inspection, and the packaging are all done in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. The outer cover yarn (the MapleCool™ phase-change material) is imported, then knit and finished into the cover in Canada. By Canada's Competition Bureau definition, the pillow qualifies as "Made in Canada with imported and domestic materials."
"Product of Canada" requires roughly 98% Canadian content — including raw materials. The imported phase-change cover yarn drops us below that threshold. We're well over the 51% threshold required for "Made in Canada" and the last substantial transformation happens in our Quebec factory.
